Lt. Sharon Lane, Canton, OH, had been in Vietnam for just 40 days when a Soviet-built 122-mm rocket hit the 312th Evacuation Hospital. She was killed instantly and became one of eight American nurses to die while serving in Vietnam. Lt. Sharon Lane died by rocket fire in Chu Lai, RNV 1969, 8 June, less than a month before her 26th birthday. "Shar" signing her last letter home closed with: "See you sooner"
